Preacher curls with the barbell

The optimal execution of Preacher Curls on the Scott bench is particularly effective with the EZ bar. However, an alternative approach is to perform this exercise with the barbell. The barbell is also a popular training tool for incorporating various barbell curls into the workout.

Body position

During Preacher Curls with the barbell, assume an upright position at the biceps bench, allowing your arms to comfortably rest on the padding while keeping your back straight. Your legs stand firmly on the ground, providing the necessary stability. The lower back forms a slight arch. Your gaze is forward, and the barbell is positioned with almost fully extended arms in front of you on the padding. The forearms and elbows are fully supported.

Movement execution

Initiate the movement by lifting your forearms upward. This motion is exclusively carried out through the elbow joint, with the upper arms remaining still while only the forearms move upward. The upward movement is accompanied by exhaling and stops when the forearms and upper arms are almost at a right angle. Then, inhale and return to the starting position, where your arms are almost fully extended. However, always maintain tension in your muscles while performing Preacher Curls with the barbell at the curl bench.
