Standing dumbbell curls

A common exercise is standing with dumbbell curls. In this, you grip a dumbbell in each hand. You can either train both arms simultaneously or perform biceps curls one after the other. Both approaches have specific advantages and disadvantages. While the muscle stimulus is more intense without interruption during simultaneous execution, alternating curls allow you to gather strength during rest intervals for a more precise execution. The question of effectiveness is a subject of controversy; ultimately, choose the variant that feels most comfortable for you.

Body position

To begin with standing dumbbell curls, assume the necessary starting position. Choose a stance with hip-width distance and align your body upright. Keep your gaze forward, and your back is in a slight arch. Hold a dumbbell in each hand in the hammer grip.

Movement execution

For the alternative execution, start on one side. Bend the forearm upward and rotate the dumbbell in the process. When the dumbbell is in front of your shoulder, the back of your hand faces forward. Exhale during the ascent. Then lower the forearm so that it rests in the hammer grip beside your body. Repeat this movement on the other side.

Similarly, you have the option to perform standing biceps curls simultaneously. Hold a dumbbell in each hand and simultaneously raise your forearms. Your hands rotate inward, so the back of your hand faces forward. Exhale during the movement and stop only when your hands are almost at the top. Return to the starting position and take a deep breath.
