Calf raises on the 45 degree leg press

Typically, the 45-degree leg press is designed for thigh training. However, there is an opportunity to utilize the machine differently to effectively strengthen the calf muscles.

Body position

To perform calf raises on the 45-degree leg press, start by sitting on the machine and ensure your back is firmly pressed against the backrest. Your head forms a natural extension of your spine. Additionally, you can use the handles next to you to provide your body with extra stability. Place your feet approximately hip-width apart on the footplate. Your toes point forward, and optionally, your heels can extend beyond the footplate. Keep your legs almost fully extended to protect your knee joints. In the one-legged variation of the exercise, you assume the same initial position. The non-trained leg is placed on the ground to enhance your stability.

Movement execution

Begin the exercise in the two-legged version of calf raises on the 45-degree leg press by lifting your heels and pushing the plate upward with your toes. Keep your legs almost fully extended, and your toes and the balls of your feet remain on the footplate. Execute the movement as far as possible while exhaling. Then, lower your heels again. This movement should be returned at least to the starting position. If your heels extend beyond the footplate, you can perform the downward movement a bit further to increase the training stimulus.

Moreover

To initiate the single-leg calf raise on the 45-degree leg press, raise the heel of the leg you're training upwards. In essence, the procedure operates in the same way as the two-legged version.
