Mountain climber with wide legs

You can also slightly modify the traditional Mountain Climbers by incorporating an additional jump. This increases the level of difficulty for the exercise.

Body position

In the starting position for the "Wide-Leg Mountain Climbers" exercise, you begin in a high plank. Your hands are positioned under your shoulders, with your fingers pointing forward. Your upper body maintains a straight line, and your lower back retains its natural curvature. Your head forms a natural extension of your spine. Your legs are slightly wider apart than hip-width and are nearly fully extended. Now, engage your entire body to initiate the "Wide-Leg Mountain Climbers."

Movement execution

As one leg remains extended backward with only the tips of the toes touching the ground, in the Mountain Climbers with wide legs, you bring the other leg forward and to the side in a bent position. Make sure that your hands assume a suitable position without arching your back, and maintain the movement in a moderate manner. The upper and lower parts of the leg form an approximate right angle, and the knee should by no means extend beyond the tips of the toes. Subsequently, extend the leg that was previously positioned in the front backward and perform a dynamic leg switch with a jump. Throughout the execution, one leg remains extended while the other is in a bent position pointing forward. The front foot can slightly turn outward when placed near your hand or as far forward as possible. Keep the upper body as stable and upright as possible, as well as the position of your hands on the ground, and the orientation of your head.
