Reverse flys on the cable from above

As the name suggests, in Reverse Flys on the cable machine, you attach the rope in the upper area, which particularly strengthens the trapezius muscles.


Body position

Reverse Flys on the cable machine from above differ significantly in terms of body position. The exercise can be performed either standing or lying down. 

 

In the standing variation, you stand upright with a hip-width stance in front of the cable machine. Your back is straight, and the lower back forms a slight arch.

 

Alternatively, you can also perform Butterfly Reverse on the cable machine while lying down. For this, place a weight bench directly under the cable machine. Lie on your back on the bench, ensuring a straight body position. Your legs are on the ground, providing the necessary stability.

Movement execution

Hold the handles of the cable machine in a hammer grip in front of your body. In the starting position, the arms are almost fully extended and directed forward, with the hands positioned above the chest. While exhaling, pull the crossed cables outward. The arms remain almost fully extended, with only the elbows slightly bent to protect the joints. Execute the pulling movement during exhalation until your arms are at the level of your body. Inhale as you return to the starting position.

 

n the lying variation, hold the two handles of the cable machine in the starting position directly above your body at the level of your upper chest. Grip the cables in a crossed fashion, with the arms almost fully extended and the elbows slightly bent. While exhaling, pull the arms outward, keeping them consistently extended. Lower the arms until they are at the level of your body. Then, inhale and return to the starting position.
